In total, we have trained 1,1019 young people in four weeks!!
Back in 2019 we sent an email to Kirklees council. Making them aware that we existed and how we wanted to get out into the community and broaden our work.
That year we delivered some sessions in Batley park, over a bank holiday weekend, completely free of charge and for zero income. We wanted to show what we were about and to prove that boxing can have a positive impact on young people and the community.
Since then we have gone from strength to strength. Every year determined to get better at what we do.
Over the last 3 years we’ve developed strong relationships with council teams. Partnered with charities and community organisations, politicians and schools. We have a fantastic team of full time staff, part time staff, volunteers and sessional workers. Although we are based in a small, 1200 square foot unit in Birstall our impact stretches across Kirklees, Leeds and Bradford.
Over the next year our community projects will be bigger and better. But our outreach work is only part of what we do.
Training cave is an all inclusive organisation and welcomes beginners, from 6 years old to veterans. Primarily we are a boxing gym that has a competitive fight team. But we also offer fitness classes, female only sessions and activities for people with special educational needs.
We have a referral programme for victims of crime. Young people who are homeless, rehabilitating and on court orders. We work with schools and other organisations, to ensure we reach people from a variety of different backgrounds.
There are perceptions with boxing. There have been and still are many barriers to overcome. But we know the positive impact boxing and what it entails can have, we will never stop in our mission to use boxing as a vehicle to bring change to our community!
At the training cave, we are strong for life. And we want as many people to be involved in our ethos as possible.
