BELONGING

Young people like to belong to a group. Having people that are ‘on their side’ is important to them.

Being part of a sports club provides young people with a sense of belonging and identity.

Young people who are in crime and violence seek adrenaline and excitement. They want to learn to fight to defend themselves.

Boxing attracts young people because of the opportunities for status and admiration.

I have sat in meetings and listened to council leaders and school teachers. They say that their concern with Training Cave is that we are teaching violent youngsters how to fight.

We deliver with a holistic, values based approach. We build relationships with young people. We mentor them. We use personal development sessions so they can apply what they learn in sports, for life.

Boxing training requires a strong one to one relationship between the coach and young person. It provides opportunity for young people to experience a positive relationship with an adult.

We aren’t teaching them how to ‘fight’. We are teaching them a discipline. To respect themselves and others.

Training Cave gives young people the confidence to walk away from difficult situations. They no longer need to prove themselves physically. We want them to feel strong and respected. Whilst still being a peaceful person.

We promote a positive gang. Boxing hooks young people into the gang. Within the gang is positive role models and peers who are all striving to better themselves.

You’ve got to see it to believe it.
