Some experiences in training and competition can leave kids scared and disillusioned, but parents and coaches need to acknowledge these feelings and keep encouraging them ‘to get back in there’.

Giving up would take opportunities away from them to realise their full potential.

In time, they will overcome their fears and they will start to believe in themselves. This sense of possibility and belief will carry over to many other areas of their lives.

‘Children will never know what’s possible unless they are encouraged to push the boundaries of their capabilities and to bounce back from adversity and try again when things don’t go as planned.’
