Very pleased to announce that the Training Cave has been awarded a grant for the work it has and will be doing with the Kirklees youth offending team.
The aim of this project is to offer young people an opportunity to try something new, lead a healthier lifestyle, build social skills and knowledge that will allow them to become positive role models in their communities. We believe that this may help to develop the relationships with these young people further, continue to safeguard them and in time steer them away from a life of crime and anti social behaviour.
The idea for this project came after our healthy holidays project last summer. We had some young people join us who was working with the youth offending team. They seemed to really engage with the training but once the summer was over there was no path for them to take within our gym due to various reasons.
We realised we needed to do something about this and we have fought hard over the last few months to secure funding for young people to train with us on a one to one basis and then join us in our regular timetable via referrals.
It’s been tough, but we are so happy that we can help these youths out. As far as we are concerned… every child deserves a chance.
